Robert (Bob) Boyd Funchess, 62, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Oceanside, California following a sudden illness.
Bob was born on June 22,1964, in Cameron, MO to William Boyd Funchess and Sharon Elizabeth (Stratton) Funchess.
Bob graduated from Cameron High School in 1982, received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Missouri Western State University in 1985, and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in 1992.
Bob is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice Funchess and their two adult children: son, Alexander Funchess of Vista, CA and daughter, Kylie Funchess San Diego, CA/Denver, CO.
Other Survivors include a stepmother: Carolyn Funchess of Cameron, MO; Brothers: Robin (Laura) Funchess of Cameron, MO; John James (Amy) McVicker, Jr. of Cameron, MO; Stepbrother: Doug Miles of Cameron, MO; Sibling-in-laws: Gary(Tonia) Smith of St. Joseph, MO, Larry (Janna) Smith of St. Joseph, MO, Linda (Doug) Snodderly of St. Joseph, MO, along with several nieces/nephews/cousins/aunts/uncles and many friends.
He was proceeded in death by his father: William Boyd Funchess (2014), mother: Sharon Elizabeth (Stratton, Funchess) McVicker (1989), stepfather: John James McVicker, Sr. (2004), Stepsister-in-law: Kyong Ae Miles (2023).
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at New Song Community Church in Oceanside, CA at 2:00pm (Pacific Daylight Time). The service will be live streamed for family and friends throughout the world via the church website NewSongChurch.com (Watch/Live Service) and https://www.newsongchurch.online.church/ It will stream at 12:00 noon (Central Daylight Time) for family and friends in the Midwest.
