George Edward Beatty, 97, passed away on September 22, 2026, at McCrite Plaza surrounded by his family’s love.
George was born on March 14, 1929, in Cameron, Missouri, to Guy Henry Beatty and Lena Maude Lane Beatty.
George met Joan Kindred of Smithville, MO, while attending William Jewell College. He was in the Sigma Nu fraternity and Joan had pledged the Beta Sigma Omicron sorority. They were introduced on a blind date because they ‘danced like each other.’ The couple married in July 1950 and danced their way through 76 years of marriage. Together, they built a wonderful life in Cameron, where they were well known and respected in the community and raised their four children.
George inherited his love of farming and automobiles from his father and was an active local businessman in both industries. He was a beef cattleman, operating Beatty Hereford Farms for many years in the Cameron area. He owned and operated Beatty Chrysler Plymouth in Cameron from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. He subsequently worked for the Gregory Livestock Association at the St. Joseph Stockyards, and later ran L&G Motors used cars in the early 1980s.
He was a member of the Moila Shrine Temple and he and Joan both enjoyed playing bridge. They were active members of the Cameron United Methodist Church serving in various capacities and singing in the church choir for many years. George loved all sports, playing basketball in high school, playing in the ‘old men’s’ church softball league, coaching his girls’ softball teams, and watching college basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs, and of course, his beloved KC Royals baseball team’s every game to the very end.
George was known for his sense of humor, integrity, and hard work ethic, which he passed on to those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Joan Kindred Beatty; his sister, Martha Beatty Moss currently of Overland Park, KC; his children, Joan Elizabeth “Beth” Riddell of North Kansas City, Sharon Ann McAlpin of Clarinda, IA, Pamela “Sue” and James “Jim” Miller of North Kansas City, and George “Alan” and Linda (Gillespie) Beatty of Kansas City, MO. He and Joan have 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlotte Beatty Musgrave and her husband Billy, brother-in-law Earle Moss, and son-in-law Russel McAlpin.
George will be remembered at a private family celebration of life. The family requests memorial donations made in George’s honor to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care https://kchospice.org/donate/.
