Jim Jarrett, 79, passed away on April 24, 2026. Born in Kansas City to Clifford and Amy Jarrett, Jim was an Eagle Scout and a 1968 Kansas State University graduate. He married his college sweetheart, Kathy Kennedy, on July 26, 1969.

After graduating from UMKC Law in 1971, Jim joined Heavner, Jarrett, and Kimball, practicing law for over 50 years. He was a well-respected advocate in Kansas City, Liberty, and Cameron, but he especially cherished his Saturdays in Braymer. Jim had an affinity for helping rural families and was a fixture at the local café for Saturday morning coffee. He also served for over 20 years on the board of the Lloyd R. Wallace Charitable Foundation.

Jim was a devoted father and grandfather who loved coaching his children’s sports and spending summers at the lake in Minnesota. Known for his dry sense of humor and his advice to “Enjoy the moments; you can’t get them back,” he spent his later years as a “prolific texter” to stay close to his grandkids.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathy; daughters Jennifer Dilts (Jason) and Kelly Harris (Wes); son Andy Jarrett (Nina); grandchildren Caroline, Lydia, Elizabeth, Amy, Mickey, Alayna (Clayton), Caleb, and Joshua; great-granddaughter June; and brothers Richard and Steve. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service was held on April 30 at Second Baptist Church in Liberty. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Lloyd R. Wallace Charitable Foundation (PO Box 37, Braymer, MO 64624)
