Making History: Cameron Student Earns National Recognition

On the second to last day of the 2025-2026 school year, Harrison Lowenstein, 13, wasn’t exchanging summer plans with fellow classmates. Instead, he was completing his 20-page annotated bibliography for the upcoming 2026 National History Day Contest.

Lowenstein, a Cameron Veterans Middle School student, traveled in June to the University of Maryland to participate in this highly competitive event. In fact, more than half a million students worldwide participate in National History Day each year, but only about 3,000 students advance to the national competition. Harrison Lowenstein is the FIRST Cameron student to compete in the NHD National Contest.
