Cameron Begins Temporary Chlorine Change to Clean Water System

Cameron residents may notice a stronger chlorine smell, a change in taste or temporary discoloration in their water over the next several weeks as the city begins a routine water-system maintenance process.

The City of Cameron and Alliance Water Resources announced the city will temporarily convert the water distribution system disinfectant from chloramines to free chlorine from May 15 through June 30. The city described the temporary disinfection period as a standard industry practice used to maintain water quality, reduce the potential for nitrification and limit buildup within water mains and storage facilities.
