Library Ninjas

Saturday, September 15, aspiring ninjas from around town converged at the Cameron Public Library to take part in their first ever Ninja Training Camp. Roughly 16 children ages 5-8 came for training. The hour-long camp started with making ninja headbands, reading a couple ninja stories, learning some basic ninja moves, making origami ninja stars, and testing stealth and agility through the ninja obstacle course.

“We want the library to be a place where people know how to explore.” said Library Director, Jo Ellen Pratt, “it’s best to expose them to that perspective young”. This camp is yet another way Cameron Library is providing an engaging, age appropriate, atmosphere where children are encouraged to use logic, problem solving, and trial and error. When asked about her inspiration for the camp, Children's Programming Coordinator, Jennifer Ensign responded, “a lot of listening to what kids are into like Ninja Warrior, looking through Pinterest, and gleaning ideas from other libraries”.

Cameron Library has both weekly and monthly events geared toward youth of all ages. For a list of upcoming events go to: www.cameronlibrary.org/events. The Library is located at 312 N Chestnut.
