Elks Annual Soccer Shoot

The Cameron Elks Lodge #2615 held its annual Soccer Shoot on Saturday, September 15, at the Cameron Soccer Fields. The Soccer shoot is a kicking contest geared toward two different skill levels based on age. The under 8 age group kicks a “five goal contest” where each child kicks towards a series of goals decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches. The older age group participates in a grid goal contest. They kick into a full size goal that has sectioned off into a 3x3 grid. The more difficult sections of the grid are worth more points. Points are scored as the ball is kicked into the various sections. Roughly 34 young people participated in the event this year.

Each child got 15 kicks. The child’s score determines the winner in each age category. The first place winner gets a trophy and advances to the District Soccer Shoot in Chillicothe on September 30. The second place winner also gets a trophy and is the runner up for Districts.

Winners of the District Shoot will advance to the State level and possibly even the National level. The Soccer Shoot is an Elks National Event and they are held in states all over the country.
